Production Manager/Technical Director

Located in Ashland Oregon one block from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Oregon Cabaret Theatre is Oregon’s Premiere Theatre and Dining Experience. The Cabaret produces five mainstage productions per year with each show running seven to ten weeks, and operates a full service restaurant during the preshow of every performance. OCT is looking for a hands-on Production Manager/Technical Director to lead the production side of our company.

Description:
The Production Manager/Technical Director is responsible for supervising all technical and organizational aspects of production including managing the season production calendar, establishing and maintaining production budgets, hiring and supervision of production personnel, working with directors and designers to ensure all technical aspects of a production run smoothly and safely, and overseeing and participating in the scenic build/load-in/install and tech rehearsal process for all productions. This position will exercise independent judgement in performing a wide variety of duties. This is a full-time salaried position reporting to the Artistic Director.

Responsibilities:
* Work with Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director, and Managing Director to develop and administer production calendar and design deadlines for each production, determine scene shop, paint, load-in, and tech schedules for the stage, and schedule and attend all design and production meetings. Work directly with guest stage managers to facilitate their smooth integration into our space and process.
* Supervise production budgets and develop materials and labor estimates. Make sure scenic designs meet all applicable safety, building, and fire codes. The PM/TD will keep the Artistic Director and Managing Director apprised of the status of the Production budget on a regular basis.
* Ensure timely completion of all designs, analyzing submissions to determine feasibility of execution with the allotted time, money, and personnel available. Produce technical/construction drawings, purchase, source, and research materials and techniques during the build process. This includes managing schedule and personnel for scenic build off-site, and participating in build, load-in, and tech rehearsals. PM/TD is also responsible for addressing all developments due to rehearsal process as learned via communication with stage management and/or directorial/design team.
*As necessary, support productions with hands-on projects including but not limited to special effects, video and projections, lighting, sound, and assisting with stage work. Work with Stage Manager in the event of needing to troubleshoot technical issues during performance phase. Maintain a safe work environment at all times. Address safety hazards with appropriate personnel promptly.
* Hire, contract, and supervise, in consultation with the Artistic and/or Managing Director when appropriate, all production staff and contractors including but not limited to: electricians, carpenters, paint charges, sound engineers, stage managers, production assistants, wardrobe personnel, running crew, and any additional personnel required for specific production needs. PM/TD is responsible for HR documentation for all production personnel, including but not limited to preparing production contracts and collecting tax forms.
* Facilitate clear communications throughout the production process, and act as a liaison between directors, designers, stage managers, and production/administrative staff. This includes but is not limited to: Coordinating and and conducting all design and production meetings. Attending first read through, designer run, and all technical rehearsals to ensure safe operating procedures. Maintain department contact information and show rosters. Communicate with SM re: load-in schedule, and supervise load-in procedures. During the performance phase, monitor and respond to performance reports, inspect all technical production elements as needed, and develop strike plan, including need for overhire labor. Supervise strike to ensure orderly and safe tear down and demolition/storage of scenic, lighting, sound, and property elements.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Broad understanding of all aspects of technical theatre
*Experience negotiating and acting as mediator in artistic and technical discussions
*Experience monitoring and adhering to budgets
*Experience overseeing production calendars and schedules
*Ability to lift 40lb, climb ladders, and perform manual labor on a semi-regular basis
*Possess excellent computer skills with proficiency in CAD, VectorWorks, Microsoft Word, Excel, + Google Calendars
*Experience reading ground plans, light plots, and other theatrical specifications
*Able to work well with all those in charge of various areas of the production (artistic staff, stage management, director, etc) to form a motivated and collaborative production team
*Excellent communication and time management skills
*Ability to maintain a calm positive attitude in stressful environments
*Nights and weekends during tech rehearsal process required
